ALISS Membership
Membership of the group is open to:
- Libraries/ information units in all sectors (government, commercial, voluntary sector, academic sector) associated with the social sciences. £40 per annum
- Information workers/ librarians at all stages of their careers. £25 per annum individual membership
- Students £15 per annum
Membership runs from October – October. It includes all issues of ALISS Quarterly.
Please note that all payments must be made in pounds sterling (£) and any additional charges (e.g. bank charges) should be covered by you.
ALISS Services
Publications
All members will receive a copy of our journal ALISS Quarterly. Its emphasis is upon the publication of concise informative articles and reviews of social science developments. An annual prize is awarded for the most innovative and inspiring article. Key topics of interest will continue to include electronic library developments and innovations in information literacy from a UK perspective.
Alerting Services
We maintain an email service- LIS-SocialScience offering weekly updates from major providers and timely reviews of new developments. We also have a Twitter and FaceBook sites. We also use our web site to provide links to the latest news, projects and full text papers online. Or, for higher education news for librarians, our new scoop.it page highlights free articles on students, HE and information literacy.
Events
- Tours of relevant library and information services. See our visits and events page for details.
- Half-day events and workshops. A useful opportunity to keep up to date with new developments and enjoy our buffet lunches! The annual AGM includes two speakers and we have recently introduced an Xmas event. Topics covered include: Open access repositories, website archiving.
- Conferences – In recent years we have expanded our remit and now offer an annual one-day summer conference. Past topics have included: E-learning; open access repositories and Librarians and the Google generation. Past papers and slides can be viewed here.
